To Thyself Be Divine
To Thyself Be Divine
I know I did not quote Shakespeare correctly, and I meant not to. There are days when men and women deal with ridiculous amounts of stress, stress we either bury deep until it explodes in a very wrong manner or, we carry the yolk like an ox. It is heavy, it hurts, it is infuriating. We all do this every day because we seem programmed to. Yoga, date night, girl's night and what have you are all ways to alleviate stress. Good things, too. Not too practical during this pandemic, but prior to the virus, it was. What if you are alone and carrying this? What do you do?
Tonight, as I have been this entire month, I have been alone, except for the kiddos whom I teach via Zoom. The stressors of the election of 2020, politics and people's behaviors about it, finances, health, love and more have been building on my shoulders like sedimentary rock layers. Scientifically in nature, through heat and pressure over millions of years, the sedimentary layers change. The minerals change, they crystalize, they become something other than tiny bits of organic and inorganic materials that settled at the bottom of prehistoric lakes and underwent metamorphic changes. The yolk I carry feels just like that. Heavy, changing, and wrought with emotion.
As a man, emotions are stupid and have no place in my life. Stupidly, I practically ooze emotions which is equally gross to think about. Sorry. This evening, one little thing set off a series of emotional tsunamis, complete with tears and sobs and brilliant "aha" moments. Songs. Music. The Food of Love. ❤
Simple, happy, joyful songs from a tv series helped me let it all go. Sure, I still feel the heaviness of it all, but I released more negativity and pain than I have in months. All because of fun, happy, powerful music, each song with a particular message for the soul.
You know, it is okay to be sad, to feel the weight of the world - of your world - on your shoulders. It is okay to try to be strong. It is okay not to be strong. Even more so, it is okay to be you.
It is okay. It.......is......Okay
Whatever you are enduring, be true to yourself. Be the divine in your truth.
Take from this what you will. Sometimes, especially those of us isolated, socially, as many of us are during this pandemic, need to hear something like this. We need to hear that it is okay to be who and how you are, and that, my friends, is a beautiful thing.
**I do not own the rights to the two graphics. It is with deep gratitude they even exist. Thank You.
